Wellington SES are inviting community members to help celebrate Wear Orange Wednesday (WOW Day) on 19 May.

Wednesday (tomorrow) Wellington SES Unit will be thanking its hard-working volunteers by conducting a community event and barbeque at its headquarters at the corner of Arthur and Gisborne Streets.

The day, which coincides with National Volunteer Week (17-23 May), is specially designed to thank every one of the service’s volunteers, who give up their time to help keep their community safe through storms and floods, rescues and other emergency support.

“The evening will kick off at 6.30pm. We will have the BBQ on for dinner and kids will be able come and participate in a mock flood rescue.

We will be doing a road crash rescue…
